Ageless style: Wardrobes staples for everyone by fashion stylist Arabella Greenhill

The high street is full of vibrant shades that inspire us to be bold.

And no trend shouts ‘bold’ as loudly as colour-blocking. Not sure how to carry it off? Follow the rules, then embrace its feel-good, mood-boosting qualities.

Colour-blocking rules

  • Keep to three colours for maximum impact. Neutrals (such as black, white and denim blue) are exceptions to this rule.
  • Any bold shade works when colour-blocking, but make sure those worn near your face flatter your skin tone so you don’t look washed out.
  • Avoid prints. Colour-blocking looks best without patterns, which can break up the effect.
  • Use accessories to add bright accents to your colourful look.
