What’s the story?

UK brand Aligne was launched in 2020 by Dalbir Bains – who has two decades of experience in the fashion industry – with the aim of breaking our reliance on fast fashion by creating sustainable clothes.

Denim trench coat: £249, aligne.co. Not only does Aligne use FSC-certified recycled cardboard packaging, but the brand also works with the charity Trees For Cities and paid for the planting of 300 in urban spaces worldwide in 2022

Why should I buy?

It’s made in the first fully sustainable denim factory in Turkey using Jeanologia technology. This reduces the volume of water needed to make a pair of jeans by 80 per cent – from 100 litres to 20.

The process also requires less energy. Aligne’s collections are all made from at least 50 per cent organic cotton, sustainable viscose and recycled polyester.

Why shouldn’t I buy?

Aligne still has work to do before all its pieces are 100 per cent sustainable. While its denim currently needs to be made in Turkey, more UK suppliers would reduce the brand’s carbon footprint.

The extra mile

Aligne uses FSC-certified recycled cardboard packaging and works with the charity Trees For Cities. In 2022, Aligne financed the planting of 300 trees in urban spaces worldwide.
